Pub bans horse due to new carpets
Following up on a story from two years ago, we’ve got a bit of sad news about Peggy the horse.
The Alexandra Hotel in Jarrow has banned 14-year-old carthorse Peggy after the pub underwent a refit, losing its former name of O’Malley’s and gaining some new carpets - on which hoof-prints are not welcome.
Peggy first wandered inside the bar when owner Pete Dolan, 62, forgot to tether her properly while he popped in for a pint. She quickly found she loved supping John Smith’s bitter and chomping down beef crisps with the other drinkers, reports the Daily Mirror.
Landlady Jackie Gray said: “Although she is probably cleaner than some of my other customers, I had to put my foot down.”
Peggy, whose pub fame spread to TV, newspapers and even a German magazine, can now only look in forlornly through the window while Mr Dolan enjoys a pint.
