A very sorry 'tail' indeed
An Italian man has been fined £400 for locking his wife’s cat out on their apartment balcony. The animal found itself out in the cold after using Allessandro Marchesi’s briefcase as a litter box.
The cat, Ivano, was discovered by wife Laura Marchesi the next morning shivering with cold and hunger after trying in vain all night to re-enter the apartment.
Furious Mrs Marchesi contacted the Italian Animal and Environment Defence Association to complain about her husband’s behaviour.
The animal rights campaigners’ lawyers obtained a court order forcing Mr Marchesi to pay for vets’ expenses and emotional damage.
Mrs Marchesi said: “I love my cat very, very much and what happened to it affected me deeply. It is only fair that I receive some compensation.”
It is unclear what effect the row has had on the couple’s relationship.
