Cruisin' the strip

Tassel twirling and sultry striptease is set to take over the North East, with the launch of Club Boudoir’s Battle of Burlesque.

The monthly competition, which will ultimately crown the region’s Amateur Burlesque Beauty, has been created by Club Boudoir, the North East’s leading burlesque cabaret act and stars of the recent Tyne Tees Television series, Show People.

The night’s official launch takes place at Nancy’s Bordello, Argyle Street, Newcastle on Wednesday October 15, after which the Battle will take place at Nancy’s on the last Wednesday of every month.

Guests at the launch night will be treated to a live performance from Club Boudoir’s professional burlesque troupe and enjoy masterclasses in the art of tease, before learning how they can battle to be crowned the North East’s best burlesque amateur.

Jill Edmunds, Director of Club Boudoir said: “Over the past few years burlesque has become increasingly popular, with stars like Dita von Teese bringing the traditional art back into the limelight.

Our Battle of Burlesque has been specifically created to let people in the North East showcase their talents and will be open to people of all shapes, sizes and experience.“

Club Boudoir was set up by Sarah Miller from Low Fell and Hebburn-born Jill Edmunds less than five years ago and has grown into the region’s premier burlesque show, as well as serving as a more general entertainment agency.

The company’s professionally trained singers and dancers currently perform at a variety of corporate and private functions across the North East and travel to venues around the UK.

Anyone wanting to know more can attend the launch of the Battle of Burlesque at Nancy’s Bordello on Wednesday, October 15. Doors open at 8pm, with the show beginning at 9pm. Entry will be charged at £7.50 or £5.00 with NUS Card.
