Fancy a holiday? Fat chance.
An obese couple lost 12st 7lb after an aeroplane humiliation that almost left them permanently grounded. Three years ago Alan and Jan Coupe became aware of a problem with their flight to Guernsey as they awaited take-off. A stewardess approached them and said they could not sit together as their combined weight of 38st was preventing flight. Mr Coupe, who weighed 20st at the time, was reseated at the front of the aircraft.
Mrs Coupe, 49, said: “We couldn’t believe that we were too heavy for the plane to take off. The stewardess asked one of us to get up and move to the front, so Alan volunteered to move which I was thankful about as I was so embarrassed I just couldn’t look up.”
The rotund pair halted their routine of late-night takeaways and instead embarked on a more sensible diet containing vegetables, salads and pasta, and their new outlook on eating has resulted in making flying a much more enjoyable experience. Mr Coupe said: “I don’t feel embarrassed about getting on a plane anymore - we feel so great we could fly around the world now without a hitch.”
