Google helps prevent mail blunders
Search engine giant Google has come up with a novel way of preventing people from sending ill-conceived drunken emails to ex-partners or bosses.
The system, Mail Goggles, can be set to activate late at night and at the weekends. It asks a series of maths questions that have to be completed within a short time span.
The basic addition and multiplication sums are designed to force those who are a little too emotional or tired to think properly about the consequences of their actions.
Gmail engineer Jon Perlow said the system was designed to establish that: “you’re really sure you want to send that late-night Friday email… what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple maths problems after you click send to verify you’re in the right state of mind?”
