Durham Business School visitors fly to success

Students from one of Russia’s top business schools have come to the region in a bid to develop their international business knowhow.

The week-long visit, hosted by Durham Business School, saw ten students and two members of staff from the Sinerghia Institute of Economics and Finance (IEF Sinerghia) visit successful North East organisations including Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) in Sunderland and Newcastle International Airport.

The group, who are all Executive MBA students, attended lectures hosted by Business School experts in leadership, strategic marketing, managing in a global environment and corporate social responsibility.

Larissa Kartashova, Deputy Dean of IEF Sinerghia spoke highly of the IEF’s partnership with the School. She said: “By visiting a leading international business school like Durham, our students gain the knowledge and practice of economic strategies, financial issues in a competitive global market and leadership values in different parts of the world.”

Professor Rob Dixon, Dean of Durham Business School said: “This visit enables the delegates to learn new ideas and ways of working in today’s competitive business environment.

“Both Durham Business School and IEF Sinerghia have strong international links that provide high quality training on Economics and Finance issues. This module is designed to expand the students understanding of business in the North East, and benefit from different working practices.”

As part of the tour the group met Graeme Mason, head of planning and corporate affairs at Newcastle International Airport, who spoke on the latest challenges facing regional airports in the UK.

He said: “We were delighted to be involved in the tour and to share our perspective on the impact of the global economy on the aviation industry regionally, nationally and internationally. We have a close working relationship with Durham Business School and support their international learning initiatives which strengthen the North East’s links with the rest of the world.”
