Morpeth gallery offers reward for stolen painting
The Tallantyre Gallery of Morpeth, Northumberland, is calling on the public to help in its appeal to find a painting that was stolen this summer.
Spanish artist Royo currently has an exhibition called Mediterranean Light running at the Tallantyre, and the gallery was hoping to have the painting returned in time for the opening on Saturday 11 October - which sadly did not happen.
Valencian-born Royo has been painting since the age of nine, and his work has become a firm favourite on the walls of the Tallantyre Gallery. Some of Royo’s work also hangs alongside that of Matisse and Picasso in a number of the Mayfair Galleries, in London.
Royo’s painting ‘Floral Blouse’ is still missing after a series of investigations leading the gallery to take extra measures to step up security for the duration of the exhibition. Gallery owner, Martin Tallantyre, hopes that Royo’s visit will help raise awareness of the stolen work and is offering a substantial cash reward in a plea for it to be returned.
Martin Tallantyre said: “As one of our most long standing exhibiting artists we’re really excited to have the opportunity to meet Royo in person and welcome him to the North East - a number of his works have already been snapped up by keen buyers and it would be fantastic if we could see this missing masterpiece reunited with Royo and hanging alongside the forthcoming exhibits. We’re offering a sizeable reward for its return!
“Royo’s work is a very distinctive style and easily recognisable so we’re calling on anyone with any information about the missing painting to contact us at the gallery as well as urging people not to miss the chance to meet this artist in the flesh as he does his whistle stop tour of the North East.”
Royo’s ‘Mediterranean Light’ exhibition will be running until Saturday 18 October and admission is free.
