Restaurant employs monkeys as Waiters
A Japanese restaurant owner has a unique approach to recruiting the right staff. He has hired and trained his two pet macaques monkeys to help his human waiters serve the customers at his restaurant.
Karou Otsuka, 63, the owner of Kayabukiya restaurant in northern Tokyo, noticed how the pair began to imitate his waiters’ actions around the restaurant.
After some basic training, twelve-year-old Yat-chan can now take and serve customers’ drinks orders, while the younger Fuku-chan has the simpler job of handing out hot towels.
Customers who are impressed with the pair’s work can tip them with boiled soya beans.
Karou has already started training his next generation of waiters. He has three baby monkeys who will potentially join the team after a few years training to assist Karou and Yat.
