If you could do anything in the North what would it be?

Design Event 08 is hosting an exhibition that will showcase the work of university students from across the region that responds to the question – ‘If you could do anything in the North what would it be?’

The exhibition runs from 10–25 October at Kings House, Forth Banks, and will showcase the creative talent graduating from design and illustration courses at Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside universities.

The work of eight recent graduates will be exhibited alongside established designers and illustrators who are alumni of regional universities all responding to the question, ‘If you could do anything in the North what would it be?’

One of the responses from students includes a design that illustrates: ‘I would go down the 199 steps in Whitby on my hands’.

The exhibition is being run by two Brighton University graduates Alex Bec and Will Hudson who set up their own design studio HudsonBec in London along with the project arm to their business called ‘If you could…’.

In order to find the local graduates from across the region’s universities Alex and Will came to the North East for the end of year design shows, interviewed some of the students and selected the eight that has answered the question the most creatively.

Alex Bec said: “The students from the North East responded to the stimulus so innovatively we were overwhelmed with the amount of talent and creativity coming from the North Eastern graduates. The whole idea behind the project was to highlight the creativity in the North East as well as pushing people to think about the one thing they would most love to do in the North East.”
