Landscape architects pledge future growth
North East-based chartered landscape architects, Southern Green, celebrated their tenth year in business this month.
The firm held their anniversary event at Piccolino’s Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne, overlooking one of the firm’s award-winning projects, Trinity Gardens.
The celebrations were marked with the promise of a new tree to be planted - one for each person attending - in the Jesmond Dene, part of the Ouseburn Parks project, another of the firm’s commissions.
Southern Green’s portfolio includes work on urban regeneration, civic spaces, historic parks and gardens, and environmental assessments.
Based in Low Fell, Gateshead, the company has several award wins under its belt - including a Hadrian Award, Civic Trust Award, Lord Mayor’s Design Award, Streetscene Award and Green Heritage Site Award.
Current projects include the Stephenson Quarter, £250million regeneration project south of Newcastle’s Central Station, Southwick housing in Sunderland, the regeneration project at Central Park Darlington, and the gardens for the new centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground Harrogate.
Co-Director, Simon Green, said: “During times of financial constraint, it is even more important to invest in parks and civic spaces to ensure that we have safe and inspiring spaces close to home and to attract investment in the future. We’re thrilled to be celebrating our tenth anniversary and thought that planting a tree for every person attending our celebrations was a great way of showing how we have always striven to be environmentally conscious when working on projects.”
