Local businesses reap the benefits as network grows

A Tyneside business group has seen its membership quadruple recently thanks to a new networking project.

The South Tyneside Business Network jumped from 15 to 60 businesses with the help of Tyneside Economic Development Company (TEDCO) and South Tyneside Means Business.

South Tyneside Business Network was founded in 1992, and is run by an annually elected management committee, made up of representatives from local business.?Current membership comes from a wide spectrum of the business community within the South Tyneside borough and surrounding areas.

Bernice Robinson, owner of Tasty Bites Sandwich Shop in South Shields, has been a member of the South Tyneside Business Network for nearly seven years and is impressed with the growth of the network. The networking has helped Bernice to win new contracts, including the South Tyneside Manufacturing Forum and Ford Component Manufacturing.

Bernice said: “The Networking project has helped to revitalise the South Tyneside Business Network, which has in turn greatly benefited the South Tyneside business community. “I would encourage everyone within South Tyneside to join the network as not only does it provide networking opportunities but also encourages procurement from within South Tyneside and provides training and support services to members.”

Networking ‘champion’ Mizan Rouf said: “It has been tremendous supporting so many businesses in South Tyneside to join the South Tyneside Business Network. The Network has been a superb platform for local businesses to meet, share ideas and do business. “I have been part of the management committee of the network since April and it’s great to be involved in such a vibrant group.”
