It?s a steel for Alan Shearer

Bike retailer M. Steel Cycles is set to officially open its new premises this week, with guest of honour Alan Shearer performing the ribbon cutting.

The shop has recently moved to new premises located on Bowsden Street in South Gosforth and will be celebrating their new look with a VIP party on Thursday evening, where the Geordie legend will be guest of honour.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress (Councillors David and Margaret Wood) are also guests at the event along with supporters of M. Steel Cycles during its 114 year existence.

M. Steel Cycles has trebled in size and is now spread over two floors. The new shop stocks the latest range of professional bikes as well as a Specialized Body Fit Centre. The centre uses scientific methods to measure a rider’s body to assess the fit of the bike.

Specialized have a long-standing relationship with M. Steel Cycles and provided Shearer with the bike he used for the Sport Relief Super Cycle challenge, when he teamed up with TV presenter Adrian Chiles to cycle 355 miles in 36 hours from Newcastle to London. The opening night will raise additional funds for Sport Relief.

Owner Joe Waugh, from East Boldon, an Olympic cyclist and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist said: “The shop looks absolutely incredible and we’re delighted to have Alan come along to officially unveil our new look. Now that we are settled in we’re looking forward to continuing our reputation for quality, value and unbeatable biking expertise.”

The new shop is also home to many of Joe’s cycling mementos and keepsakes from his racing days, including old photographs, magazine covers, medals and signed team tops hung on the walls around the shop.
