Rugby star's North East smile

Rugby star Paul Sculthorpe is showing he has plenty to smile about after bearing all in a charity calendar being produced by a North East cosmetic dentist.

The former St Helen’s captain, one of the faces of razor giants Gillette, has just completed treatment at Sunderland’s Riveredge Cosmetic Dentistrywhere he underwent dental work to repair damage sustained to his teeth during a 12 year rugby career.

After the work was complete Paul agreed to join a group of patients and staff preparing to appear naked in Riveredge’s Wearing Nothing But A Smile calendar for 2009.

Dr Ken Harris of Riveredge is one of only four UK dentists to be accredited by the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), with the other three being based in central London.

“Obviously I wanted the best treatment available, and I was delighted to discover I did not have to travel to London for my new smile,” said Paul. “Being a Northern lad myself, and given Ken’s qualifications, Riveredge were the obvious choice. I’ve never been afraid of the dentist but the team at Riveredge were very reassuring and made sure I understood the whole process, so I knew that I had nothing to worry about.”

The 31-year old admitted he had no problem stripping off his clothes for the naked photoshoot at Newcastle’s Mansion House saying it was “all part of the job.”

“I’ve posed for various publicity materials and sports calendars before so the Riveredge photoshoot didn’t really faze me,” he said. “I had no hesitation in agreeing to pose naked, especially when I learnt it was for charity and in the end I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to see the finished results.”

Riveredge’s 2009 charity calendar, ‘Wearing Nothing But A Smile,’ will be available from next week. It can be purchased in person from the Riveredge clinics in Newcastle and Sunderland, or over the phone on 0191 567 1020.
