Young Enterprise thanks business supporters

Business leaders from across the region gave their thanks to an enterprise campaign at an event last week.

Young Enterprise North East hosted the event to celebrate regional businesses’ support of the ‘One Day’ campaign. The event was held at _spaceworks - the head office of long standing YENE supporter Space architecture group and attracted many business owners who were able to see for themselves what a difference One Day can make to the aspirations of local young people.

Providing a waitressing service for the event was Voila, a group of girls from Central Newcastle High School who, thanks to YENE’s Company Programme and the help of business volunteers, have been able to set up their own business.

The One Day call to action asks employers the question ‘what could you give up in one day?’, and outlines 10 pledges to pick from, such as giving up one day’s profit, one day of an employee’s time to volunteer in a school, or one day for a student to visit their workplace.

So far more than 200 pledges have been made, with 72 business supporters signing up to the campaign to help deliver educational enterprise programmes in classrooms across the region.

YENE’s chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “Young Enterprise could not survive without the support of the business community and we wanted to say a big thank you to all of our business volunteers and in-kind supporters that, despite the current economic climate have still managed to give up their time and resources to help the One Day campaign reach its targets and to generate enterprising attitudes amongst this region’s student population.

“I think this goes to show that in today’s current economic situation more than ever businesses are realising that they need to develop their future workforce.”
