The Perfect Christmas Tipple

Mulled wine? Irish Coffee? Gin Fizz? Everyone has their own favourite Christmas tipple. but what is it that makes a drink perfect for our Christmas celebrations?Scientists at the Centre for Lifesay they have come up with an equation to solve all our woes…

Christmas Drink: (Xd) = {x [C?H?OH]“+yC?H??O? + “√flavouring}* * (∏mv”)

Noel Jackson, Head of Education at the Centre for Life, explains the formula: “To get the perfect drink for Christmas, you need several things to be just right. The amount of alcohol (C?H?OH) has to be complimented by the right amount of sugar (yC?H??O?) which then has to have just the right amount of flavouring and finally, the temperature (∏mv”) needs to be at a comfortable level. Get any of these components wrong and you’ll end up with a drink that is just not right.”

The Centre for Life’s next Science for Grown-Ups event, Tipples and Tinsel, aims to help those wanting to impress Christmas Dinner guests with their expertly-mixed Christmas cocktails.

Life’s resident mixologist will serve up a selection of festive favourites and guests will explore the science involved in the distilling, storing, mixing and serving of a selection of festive drinks from the traditional mulled wine to the more unusual continental variations and favourites such as Gin Fizzes and Winter Warmers.

Tipples and Tinsel is being held on Thursday 11 December from 7.30-9pm at the Centre for Life. For further information or to book a place, call 0191 2438210 or got to www.life.org.uk/articles/132.
