Business studies ?boring?

Business lessons in UK schools are boring and involve students being talked at rather than gaining real life experience, according to an Ofsted study.

In half of the 118 schools surveyed pupils complained they were not able to try out their business ideas in business situations or able to gain work experience with companies.

Ofsted said one reason for the shortcomings could be a lack of training opportunities for business and economics teachers.

“Business teachers must be given the training they need to produce inspiring lessons,” said chief inspector Christine Gilbert.

“The best lessons actively engaged students through case studies of real businesses, role play, games and simulation.”

Business courses remained popular at both GCSE level and beyond, however, especially among male pupils.
