Deloitte raises £16k for North East charities
A team of colleagues from professional services firm Deloitte has learned that their efforts at this year’s London Triathlon have raised £16,000 for North East charities.
It is the second year employees from Deloitte’s Newcastle office have participated in the event, which took place in August. The aspiring athletes have agreed to split the money between Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) and the North of England Children’s Cancer Research fund (NECCR).
21 Deloitte employees completed a 750 metre swim and a 20 kilometre cycle, and two finished Sunday’s Olympic distance triathlon - a 1,500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run. Nine of the group competed in relay teams.
Leading by example, Stuart Cottee, partner & head of tax for the North East, John Charlton, partner with the audit team, and Paul Williamson, office senior partner, trained and competed alongside their colleagues.
Michael Barker, assistant director with Deloitte’s corporate finance department, said: “We have a number of initiatives that give back to the community, both local and national, and the money raised through this particular event will go a long way to helping both GNAA and NECCR continue their great work - ultimately saving a number of lives each year.
“With the number participating double that of last year’s we expect even more of our colleagues will be inspired to take part in 2009 and we look forward to continuing to raise money for these charities that make so much difference to the community.”
The Mazda London Triathlon is an annual event held at the Excel centre, at the Royal Victoria Dock in London. For further information about next year’s London Triathlon event, please visit: www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk.
