Wateraid's Christmas number one
A North East charity rock band are aiming for the heady heights of Christmas number one after recording their own Christmas single.
The professionally produced track of 55 Degrees’ original song “The Office Party”, written by the band’s Pete Rea and David Haley, includes tongue in cheek lyrics and a chorus of many voices as is customary with festive charity songs.
55 Degrees is made up of seven senior business people from the North East who primarily play concerts for charity and mostly cover well known songs.
As the credit crunch bites and the traditional office party is under threat, the band thought they would make the record to keep the party spirit going and raise cash for charity in the meantime.
They chose as their good cause Northumbrian Water’s adopted international charity WaterAid which works to bring clean safe drinking water to people in Africa and Asia.
Managing Director John Cuthbert, who plays rhythm guitar in the band, said: “We hope big-hearted music lovers with an ear for fun will get behind us this Christmas and make this charity effort a real success.
“We are also hoping that radio stations will get into the spirit of what we are doing and give the song air time to push it into the charts. It would be great to rival Terry Wogan and Aled Jones’s Little Drummer Boy!”
Copies of the CD are available from RPM Music, High Bridge, Newcastle, costing just £2. It is also available by telephone for credit card orders from Northumbrian Water’s Winter Wonderland booking line on 0845-1551553 (open 10am - 5pm Monday to Friday) and asking for ‘The Office Party.’ It is also available to download for 79p from www.amazingtunes.com/users/55degrees
