Looking good on a credit crunch budget

Despite the current economic climate, a North East fashion consultant is urging the region’s women not to despair of finding the perfect party outfit this season.

Claire Taperell of Ponteland based Chrysalis Image Consultancy says that given the economic downfall it is inevitable that women’s clothes shopping habits will be affected, however this is not necessarily a change for the worse.

Claire Taperell said: “Getting that one key item is now more popular than buying several cheap bargains that could potentially never see light of day. With Christmas time now upon us we are of course watching our pennies but I am confident that I can show women how they can still look chic on a credit crunch budget.

“The credit crunch has affected the way people shop, however I have seen an influx of clients who want my help to buy those timeless key items that will never go out of fashion. Looking good is always possible, regardless of your budget.”

Claire’s top tips for Christmas party clothes shopping on a credit crunch budget:

  • There are several key items that I recommend to appear in any women’s wardrobe, these include; the LBD (little black dress), tailored trousers, a classic coat, a white shirt and some killer heels and they can be adapted to fit each season’s trends.
  • You do not have to spend a fortune to look good. Always try high street shops and spend time looking for clothes that complement your shape and style, for example vertical stripes can elongate legs and horizontal stripes can add curves to a straight frame.
  • Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise. If you don’t have much money for new clothes, accessories can change the full look of an outfit. For example, bright tights, a belt and some killer heels can add glamour look to clothing as well as allowing you to wear it more than once.
  • The credit crunch has seen the sales arrive earlier than ever this year and there are some great bargains to be had so trawling through the sale rack can be extremely worthwhile.
  • Instead of buying many items, investment shop and purchase clothing that you know you will wear and last you.
