College course receives web services boost
A financial web services specialist has offered support to students enrolled on a technology foundation degree at Gateshead College.
Managing Director at Sunderland-based Unified Software, George Barron, has suggested offering placement opportunities and the possibility of a full time role for students completing the two-year Digital Application Development Foundation Degree.
George Barron said: “We are a growing business, and finding people with the right skill set in such a niche area as offering financial validation services over the web is not easy.
“It seemed only natural that we should assist in anyway we could, and courses such as this one at Gateshead College provides curriculum elements in our specialism.”
The new degree has seen its first 25 undergraduates - a mixture of A-Level pupils enrolled full time and working students enrolled on the part-time option - begin the course in September this year.
John Deary, Programme Leader at Gateshead College, said: “I first met George through an employer liaison and engagement event, and out of four or five businesses showing an interest in our course Unified Software was the only one to commit resource allowing our students to access its web services and test its products free of charge.”
The course has two modules that are specifically designed to focus on the application of web services, an area that has seen a huge amount of change over the last few years.
George said: “I am relishing the opportunity to contribute to this course. “John has also suggested that I could guest lecture, which is something I’m really looking forward to doing.”
