Nunthorpe School Makes its Mark
A group of enterprising students from Nunthorpe Specialist Business and Enterprise School have been crowned North East regional winners of the 2008 Make Your Mark Challenge, thanks to help from the Redcar and Cleveland enterprise team.
The Make Your Mark Challenge 2008 challenged students to devise a business idea based around the values associated with the 2012 Olympics or Paralympics. This is the first year schools from Redcar and Cleveland entered the competition, which requires students to produce a business plan and supporting financial information for their enterprising idea.
Nunthorpe Students Jack Cassidy, Tom Baxter, Elliot Joyce, Tom Averell, Sohail Rahman and Ben Shaw impressed the judges with ‘Stripe Sports’, a combination of online sports forums and interactive fantasy sports leagues for the 2012 Olympics. The team will now take Stripe Sports to the competition’s national finals in London today.
Alison Blacklock, Director of Enterprise at Nunthorpe, said: “Each member of the winning team worked extremely hard to come up with not only a creative business idea but something which could work as a viable enterprise in the real world. The result was a current and well-researched idea that captured the attention of the judging panel.
“We are proud of each and every member of the team, not only for being shortlisted, but for being crowned regional winners in spite of the high standard of entries from schools across the North East. The Make Your Mark Challenge has helped excite and inform our students in the world of business and I would like to thank the Redcar and Cleveland enterprise team for their ongoing support.”
