Businesses help One Green Paper Clip Challenge
Students from Newcastle College‘s School of Business and Care recently raised £500 for the Mosaic appeal, part of Barnardo’s Children’s Charity.
Starting with just one green paper clip, the idea behind the challenge was to undertake a series of swaps, receiving higher value items with each swap. As part of the project the students visited local businesses asking for swaps or donations and managed to secure vouchers from TGI Friday, Collectables and John Lewis as well as several items of jewellery and toys.
The entrepreneurial students then held an auction where all the donations were sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds given to the Mosaic Appeal.
Duncan Jordan, a lecturer in the School of Business and Care at Newcastle College said: “This was a fantastic project for the students. Not only were they able to gain vital team working and transferable skills but they were also able to collect vocational evidence for their business course.
“The Mosaic appeal really struck a cord with the students and we are delighted that we were able to raise money to help such a worthy project.”
Barnardo’s Mosaic project is based in the North East and is designed to support people whose lives have been affected by sexual abuse.
