Former college pupil becomes lecturer

A former pupil from a local college is now lecturing a foundation degree at the same college.

Paula McCormack completed a counselling qualification at TyneMet College as part of a wider skills remit for her business. Three years later Paula is now lecturing a foundation degree in Leadership and Management at the college in Wallsend.

Paula is the founder of Ellmac, an organisational development and training company which specialises in the growth of small to medium enterprises.

Paula has designed the content for the two year foundation degree to cover all aspects of leadership and management from personal development to managing resources.

Paula said: “It’s a great privilege to be able to help individuals develop the skills, thinking and behaviours they need to take their careers forward and equip the region with the skills it needs.”

The degree came about as Paula was approached by her former tutor at the college, Sam Haley. Sam, who is also director of higher education at TyneMet College, had delivered a number of seminars to Women into Lifelong Learning Ltd - a network set up by Paula to encourage women into business in the north east.

Sam said: “Paula was an excellent student when at the college and it has been wonderful to see her go on to develop a successful business here in the north east. It’s even better to see her passing on knowledge and skills to pupils here at the college.”
