2000 North East voices heard so far
People across the North East are being given the opportunity to have their voices heard and their opinions documented through a new interactive website.
With over 2000 filmed responses already posted on the website, and close to 150,000 hits since it launched in October 2008, FlipSide is already proving a hit with the public.
Lisa Laws, Creative Communities Manager at Northern Film & Media said: “This is a real call to action. By asking these questions - what keeps you awake at night? What object represents you? What is unique about you? What is the thing you most value as an individual? What one thing would make your life better? - We’re able to get a real insight into what makes the North East tick and get our personal and collective messages out to the wider world.”
The site has already won the support of high profile figures from the region. David Miliband, MP for South Shields and Foreign Secretary, said: “Northern Film & Media’s FlipSide website goes a long way towards helping to uncover the North East, its people and their stories. It is great to be able to watch and listen to people discuss their hopes and fears and, in a very real way, this feeds into the democratic process.”
New questions will be asked on the site over time. Lisa Laws said: “With more questions we will have more responses. With more responses comes more insight and debate and with more debate comes a greater understanding of who the North East is.”
