North East firms urged to explore new overseas markets

North East firms are being encouraged to explore new overseas markets at a special series of free seminars organised by UK Trade & Investment.

The “Look outside the bubble” events are the latest in a series of seminars organised as part of a roadshow to help companies break into new markets.

Three of UK Trade & Investment’s team of International Trade Advisers, Ron Seymour, Bob Beresford and Craig Daglish have put together the programme for the events and will be on hand to explain the support available to help companies involved in international trade.

Representatives from HSBC will help delegates learn the importance and methods of getting paid and there will be first-hand accounts from local companies who have already become successful exporters.

Ron Seymour said: “Despite the credit crunch the North East’s export performance remains strong with more than £11.5 billion worth of goods and services exported in the last year. And yet only a relatively small percentage of the region’s companies are exporters.

“So while the credit crunch may mean we have to tighten our belts it should not deter companies from exploring overseas opportunities. By broadening their horizons companies can benefit not just from bringing in new business but it also spreads the risks.”

The latest events will be held Wednesday 21 January at The Customs House in South Shields and Thursday 22 January at HSBC on the Team Valley Trading Estate.

The events are free but the number of places is limited. For more information or to book a place email enquiries@ukti.rito.co.uk.
