Recipe for online success

A North East business duo are set to make the most of the credit crunch with their online menu finder service, getthemenu.co.uk. The first site of its kind in the region, Get The Menu lets users locate and download take-out and restaurant menus of their choice.

GetTheMenu.co.uk is being brought to the region by David Caldicott, from Gosforth, and Ken Ward from Cramlington, who recognised that, at a time when people are increasingly substituting dining out with a takeaway meal in front of the TV, the concept of Get The Menu fits perfectly with the region’s current credit-crunching philosophy that ‘staying in is the new going out’.

Based on a similar search engine which Ken came across whilst holidaying in Australia, the pair saw an immediate gap in the market.

Persuading the many eating establishments in the area to embrace the 21st century and use the power of the Internet to advertise their products was the next step in the plan, and the number of restaurants and takeaways now signed up to the service is growing at a steady rate.

Ken, from Cramlington said: “Not only is there nothing like this in the UK, but we’re all faced with hundreds of paper menus shoved through our doors every month, so it’s also hoped that Get The Menu will help begin putting a stop to all the wasted paper takeaway menus littering the place. Some would call it a green moment!”

David, who is from Gosforth said: “The UK takeaway and home-delivery market represents a significant slice of the nation’s catering market, and one that is continuing to expand steadily. After researching the online market for other menu finder services we saw a huge opening for something like this both in the region and further afield - the Get The Menu website is so powerful that with just a few minor modifications we could expand to cover the UK.”
