Mentoring role to drive digital success
Start-up digital companies in the region are to be given a helping hand on the path to commercial success by a leading Newcastle businesswoman.
Jo Carter, managing director of recruitment consultancy Concept Personnel, will mentor growing businesses as part of the DigitalCity initiative.
She will advise emerging companies based at Middlesbrough’s £12 million Institute of Digital Innovation (IDI) through the IDI’s DigitalCity Fellowship programme. The programme provides entrepreneurs and pre-start-up companies in the sector with funding, facilities and support to establish their businesses or commercialise their products.
Jo, who set up Newcastle-based Concept Personnel six years ago, will help guide start-ups through the difficult early days.
Jo said: “With the calibre of graduates we now have in the region, we have the potential to create innovative businesses in the digital sector. It’s important we’re able to harness this potential to transfer ideas into commercially successful ventures and DigitalCity is a great place to do this.”
Loday Gonpo, creative director at the IDI, said: “Jo has great links with the digital and creative sector and is a perfect ambassador for us. Besides starting up and running a successful business of her own, she also knows exactly what makes or breaks young companies in the digital sector.
“We want businesses to grow quickly and it’s essential we find experienced entrepreneurs who understand digital media and know how to develop companies. Jo is an excellent match. She has a lot of experience and talent that we can utilise.”
