Durham's state of the art dental training centre

A new state of the art training facility for dentists in the North East opens today in Durham.

The Bourne House dental education and training centre at Mandale Business Park, Belmont, is designed to offer dentists and their practice teams the best training experience using the latest equipment. The centre is only the second of its kind in the UK and will provide a dedicated resource for all kinds of dental health professionals in the North East.

The centre boasts cutting edge technology including a ‘phantom head room’ with realistic mannequins which give trainees the chance to practise their techniques in lifelike conditions.

Malcolm Smith, Postgraduate Dental Dean at the Northern Deanery said: “Having access to the finest equipment, technology and facilities will give dentists and practice teams excellent facilities in which to maximise their skills to ensure we as a region continue to deliver the very best patient care. “Once again the NHS in the North East is putting its money where its mouth is and investing in the best training and development opportunities for staff.”

Barry Cockcroft, the Chief Dental Officer for England will be opening the centre. The event will also be attended by dental education leads from across England as well as local MPs and health chiefs.

The centre is also opening on a cultural note by displaying paintings from local artist Bill Hindmarsh as part of a rotating exhibition of his work.
