Hotel and nursery sought for Baltic Business Quarter

Work is underway to attract hotel, café and children’s nursery operators to Gateshead’s Baltic Business Quarter.

Developer Terrace Hill is looking to attract high quality proposals from both regional and national operators for the available space.

The announcement follows the arrival of both Gateshead College and the Open University to the site and, more recently, the announcement of proposals to build The Design Centre North, a two-wing building intended as a focal point for regional design companies.

Work on a further three new buildings for energy provider npower is also expected to start soon.

Sheila Johnston, Director of Development and Enterprise for Gateshead Council, says: “We want Baltic Business Quarter to be everything that a modern, forward-thinking business is looking for. We are already providing superb office space, a great environment, a brilliant location and the best IT and telecoms infrastructure in the region. But that’s still not enough.

“We think complementary services such as these will help ensure that Baltic Business Quarter does not become just another soul-less ‘office block ghetto’. Instead, they will turn Baltic Business Quarter into a vibrant business community with everything local companies crave to make their business a success, and everything their employees need to turn working in Gateshead into a perfect career choice.”

Martin Vickerman, Director at Terrace Hill Group, said: “The proposed children’s nursery, hotel and coffee shop will all add to Baltic’s offering and provide existing and new tenants with additional key facilities that will undoubtedly be much in demand. We are now welcoming approaches from interested operators and look forward to announcing the latest additions to the Baltic Business Quarter in due course.”
