Renewable energy contracts boost order book

The need for new-build construction and housing projects to be greener is boosting one North East contractor’s order book as it looks to the future.

In recent months Kingston Park-based Gilwood Mast has won contracts to design and install mechanical and electrical services incorporating renewable energy solutions totalling £1.9million for clients Dorin Construction and Lumsden & Carroll.

Charles Clark, Gilwood Mast’s Company Chairman, said: “Rules laid out by the Government now mean that most projects must have renewable energy producing equipment to provide 10% of predicted energy requirements within the scheme, which is good news for companies such as ours.

“We are increasingly working with clients to design and deliver renewable energy solutions in their schemes to meet and in many cases exceed current building regulation requirements.

“Solar panels are one of the most obvious choices for residential developments as they are readily available, and in affordable housing developments solar panels will help people reduce energy costs in the long run.”

Gilwood Mast is undertaking another renewable energy project at Bardon Mill where solar panels are being installed to provide hot water into affordable housing.

Charles added: “Whilst we will continue to provide clients with the traditional mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, this is a new market for us to move into and embrace as we move the business forward.”
