Businesses boost school science
A recent North East awards ceremony saw thousands of pounds given to local schools to improve the teaching of science.
At the NEPIC (North East Process Industry Cluster) Annual Awards Dinner on 16 January at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield, £12,000 was awarded to schools through awards they have won themselves or through nomination by award-winning companies.
The awards dinner played host to over 400 industry representatives. Awards categories included three Environmental Awards, Safety Innovation Award, Manufacturing Award, five Young Achievers Awards and the Life Time Achievement Award.
Bob Coxon OBE, Chair of NEPIC, said: “Despite the current economic problems, this was a fantastic night showcasing the industry and the excellence of its companies and individuals, as well as the contribution we make to our local communities.”
Dr Stan Higgins, NEPIC’s CEO, said: “Over 440 people from the industry attended our event tonight in support of NEPIC and its programmes, including a number of international guests, MPs and other dignitaries.
“We purposely did not spend a fortune on stage set up or on hiring zero rated presenters at our awards ceremony. Companies in our sector prefer to see such money making science & engineering more interesting in schools. We are very proud that our award sponsors and winners get the opportunity to see the how their sponsorship funds reinforce industry and schools relationships.”
