Long winter, says rodent
The world’s most famous groundhog made his yearly weather forecast yesterday - and we’ve got six more weeks of winter to come, apparently.
Punxsutawney Phil‘s prediction was announced in front of thousands of visitors gathered at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Philadelphia. Phil poked his head out of his burrow, saw his own shadow, and thus the world was denied an early spring.
Groundhog Day has been celebrated in Punxsutawney since 1887. In that time, Phil has seen his shadow 97 times, hasn’t seen it 15 times, and there are no records for nine years, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
