Redcar beach takes romance credit
Redcar beach, the Cleveland Hills, and the Transporter Bridge might not be high on many people’s list when considering the most romantic settings in the south of the region, but a Valentine’s Day inspired survey by the Area Tourism Partnership, visitTeesvalley, has found that the place where most Tees Valley women would like to receive a marriage proposal is Redcar beach.
The survey, which was undertaken on the streets of Tees Valley to celebrate Valentine’s Day, uncovered some interesting differences in opinion between men and women over the most inspiring romantic settings in the area.
The 8-mile stretch of coastline at Redcar and the Cleveland Hills proved top choices for women. However more than a third of all men surveyed would prefer to propose at the Riverside Stadium during a football match.
Julia Frater, Head of visitTeesvalley said: “The results of the survey certainly highlight the diverse thinking of Tees Valley residents when considering romantic places of interest in the area. It seems that most people chose places of natural beauty or well-known landmarks rather than some of the more luxury offerings such as four-star hotels and gourmet restaurants.
“The survey highlights the great deal of pride in the natural beauty of the Tees Valley, several respondents had actually received or proposed marriage on the Cleveland Hills so it is obviously a popular spot with people looking for a romantic location to impress their partner when popping the big question. We can only wonder how many men will take the lead and actually pop the question this Valentine’s Day at some of the top-rated proposal hot-spots in the Tees Valley.”
