Shivering Geordies
It’s pointless survey time again! But this time, you can get involved yourself (maybe).
Scientists in Newcastle are attempting to determine if Geordies have a genetic resistance to cold weather.
The Geordie stereotype holds that a Newcastle-born person on a night out should not wear a coat, instead braving the weather whatever the temperature. Researchers at Newcastle’s Centre for Life are putting the theory to the test as part of their Science Fest 2009, taking place in March.
They are looking for Geordies to take part in the online survey, found at www.newcastlesciencefest.com, and want as many honest responses as possible. We don’t know if entries are limited strictly to those born in the Toon, or whether other North Easterners are allowed to take part. Our editor is only an adoptive North East resident, so he certainly wasn’t allowed.
