Recession-beating offer of free site
An industrial estate is being offered rent-free to help firms in the region get through the recession. The 12-acre site on the Dubmire Industrial Estate at Houghton le Spring near Sunderland is on offer by owner Andy Eavis.
Until recently, he leased the site to plastic components manufacturer Thompson Technik, which had various clients, including Caterpillar at Peterlee.
In January the company went into administration with 65 people losing their jobs.
Mr Eavis is offering the site rent-free for a year and has also spoken to Thompson Technik’s administrator which has agreed to put a temporary hold on selling equipment inside the building.
Mr Eavis said: “I wanted to give other businesses the opportunity to save costs, with the first year free and then a low rent to follow.
“I have grown very attached to the North East and am sure that these facilities would provide a superb opportunity for firms to come out of recession in a very strong position, providing ongoing benefits to the local economy.”
