Regeneration scheme unveiled
A multi-million pound scheme to improve access into Haltwhistle’s Hadrian Business Park is now complete. The project, which cost £3.6million, was partly funded by One North East.
It involved the construction of a new roundabout on the A69, an access road, flood defence bank and lighting and now provides direct access for vehicles.
The business park is made up of 245,000 sq ft of existing industrial and office space, which was formerly occupied by Akzo Nobel paintworks.
Margaret Fay, Chairman of One North East says: “The launch of the Hadrian Business Park Access Scheme is great news for Haltwhistle and will potentially help pave the way for hundreds of new jobs and investment opportunities. Market towns like this are important to the Northumberland economy.”
At the time, the closure of key employers such as Akzo Nobel and Blenkinsopp Colliery dealt a severe blow to the economy around Haltwhistle.
