Saving the heat at wood fuel expo
Businesses and organisations across the North East are being given the opportunity to find out how they can become more efficient both financially and environmentally.
Keeping up with the latest thinking on Government renewable heat targets will also be on the agenda when the UK’s first wood fuel expo - Ignition09 - arrives at The Sage Gateshead on 11 and 12 March.
The free two-day event, backed by One North East and Rural Developments Initiatives (RDI), will provide companies with information on wood fuel and the long-term benefits of switching to this method of renewable energy.
Jonathon Porritt - Programme Director of Forum for the Future and Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission - and recognised worldwide as a passionate speaker and expert on sustainable development, will launch the event.
“Whilst renewables (and heat from biomass in particular) are certainly on the agenda at present, the vast range of available information can be overwhelming and very fragmented. It’s important to provide easy access to current information and aid understanding of this growing sector. This free event will enable companies make an informed decision on whether wood heat is a viable option for their business in the future,” he said.
David Clubb, wood fuel expert speaking on behalf of Ignition09 said: “Although it will be a few years before the structure for this legislation is put in place, it is in the best interests of any business or organisation to stay one step ahead and find out how a renewable source like wood fuel could benefit their operation.
“I know in today’s economic climate many businesses are putting environmental concerns on the back burner but in the long term it really does makes sense to act now in order to future-proof your business.”
