March into tourism success in Durham

North East tourism firms are being offered advice to help them make the most of the recession-fueled trend for UK holidays.

The weak pound is causing many people to stay in the UK for their holidays, and the North East is in a position to benefit, according to the County Durham Tourism Partnership (CDTP).

The CDTP believes that local tourism ventures need to plan and manage their finances and respond quickly to market conditions if they are not to lose out to other areas in the UK.

The CDTP are offering a free workshop on Thursday 12 March, as well as a free Spring Conference for tourism on Thursday 19 March.

David McKnight, Business Relationship Manager at CDTP, said: “With tourism now a major force in Durham’s economy, supporting 13,000 jobs and bringing in £656m a year, CDTP are very keen to build on this success by offering support, assistance and expertise to help tourism businesses remain profitable despite the recession.

“It is vitally important to realise that money management in all businesses, from a small B&B to a large visitor attraction, can often make the difference between success and failure.”

Among the speakers will be Sharon Orrell, from VisitBritain, who will explain how visitor behaviour is changing in the downturn.

For more details on these events contact David McKnight at CDTP on 0191 383 7428 or email david.mcknight@cdtp.co.uk.
