Guest sommelier shares tipple tip

The Fisherman’s Lodge in Jesmond has welcomed its latest monthly guest sommelier, Dickinson Dees partner Guy Harvey.

As part of the restaurant’s bid to encourage business people to recommend its wine and champagne lists to others, it launched a monthly guest sommelier scheme for businesses last year.

The restaurant is asking local wine connoisseurs to give their recommendation to other guests in return for a bottle of their recommended wine and being featured in the Fisherman’s Lodge wine menu.

The guest sommelier throughout March is wine buff Guy Harvey who has recommended his favourite red and white wines.

He said: “I always knew that choosing just two wines from the outstanding Fisherman’s Lodge list would be no easy task, with entries from all over the world and in so many different styles.

“I finally plumped for the Elk Cove white and Greenhough Pinot Noir burgundy classic from New Zealand to show some more unusual wines, which can clearly stand against the European classics and have real integrity.

“I hope that people enjoy drinking them as much as I did choosing them.”

Tom Maxfield of the Fisherman’s Lodge said: “Many of our guests are discerning wine connoisseurs so it is great that they now have an opportunity to share their knowledge and encourage others to learn more about our extensive selection.

“Every other month we pick a different guest sommelier; typically a business person who has a keen interest in sharing their wine knowledge.”
