New jobs at North East eco-park
51 new jobs are being created at a £50million ‘eco-park’ in the North East.
Waste management company Graphite Resources and their operating partner px limited are building one of the world’s largest steam autoclave recycling plants and has just commenced the recruitment process.
William Thompson, director at Tyneside-based Graphite Resources, said: “Construction is ahead of schedule and we are on track to be operational by autumn of this year. We have a wide range of quality jobs on offer, and with these, and the indirect jobs that they will create or maintain, we’re pleased to demonstrate that there are still plenty of reasons to remain positive in the North East.
“Derwenthaugh EcoParc is an exciting opportunity, not just for Tyneside but for the North East region as a whole. I think that the region should be positive and prepare for the upturn in the economy, whenever that comes.”
The new facility is located in Blaydon and is set to provide 51 new jobs on completion, with around 20 more to follow once at full capacity.
The structure, covering almost five acres at Derwenthaugh is already complete. The flooring was finished recently and the electrics and fire supply systems are starting to be installed.
The £50million plant uses steam autoclaving technology as an effective solution for the safe treatment of residual household and non-hazardous commercial waste.
Mr Thompson said: “We’re really impressed with the site’s progress. Our construction contractor Clugston is doing a great job, with over a hundred construction workers on site last week. The sub-contract for installing a major part of our specialised plant has just been awarded to a Washington company, so more positive news for the area. Wherever possible we are looking to work with local companies.”
