Sky-high dining on Tyneside
Tickets are now on sale for a nerve-wracking dining experience taking place in Newcastle and Gateshead in May.
Highlights planned for the second EAT! NewcastleGateshead food festival include sky-high dining at an open-air table suspended 50 metres from a crane and a green-principled feast created by the UK’s leading eco-restaurateur.
A special launch party will celebrate the award-wining chefs and producers of North East England and a series of gourmet dinners will include diners moving seats between courses.
The centrepiece of the festival is set to be ‘EAT! Carter’. Diners will be seated around a dining table suspended at the same height as the never-opened restaurant at the top of the Gateshead car park, made famous in the film ‘Get Carter’. The restaurant has been empty for 40 years and is due for demolition this year as part of the redevelopment of Gateshead town centre.
Simon Preston, festival director for EAT! NewcastleGateshead, said: “I believe that this year’s EAT! NewcastleGateshead can lay claim to be the most exciting and unique collection of food adventures taking place anywhere in the UK. Where else can you experience dinner suspended 50m up and enjoy amazing panoramic views, an ‘extreme’ foraging trip or authentic Nigerian home-cooking in one of 10 mystery venues? Many of our events sell out quickly, so I’d encourage people to book now to make sure they are part of this year’s festival.”
