Sage takes national conferences
A major organisation is to hold two of its national conferences in a North East venue for the second time.
Unison, Britain’s biggest public-sector trade union, will host its Black Members’ Conference in January next year at The Sage Gateshead music centre. A month later, the Unison National Women’s Conference will be held in the same venue.
The conferences are expected to generate £1m for the region’s economy.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “We are delighted that an organisation the size and status of Unison is bringing back two of their flagship conferences to our beautiful ‘twin cities’.
“We have a number of major conferences lined up for 2010, including major events for the Obstetric Anaesthetists Association and the Royal College of Nursing, and Unison’s conferences are the icing on the cake.”
Joeli Brearley, head of conference and events at The Sage Gateshead, said: “This announcement is great news for The Sage Gateshead. Making such a positive impression on a major organisation in our first few weeks of opening is indicative of the atmosphere and accessibility of this venue and the destination as a whole and we are looking forward to welcome delegates back in 2010.”
