Enterprise Campus hatches out
Northumbria University’s Enterprise Campus is celebrating the final office space being taken up at its latest business incubator - the new Hatchery.
To meet growing demand for the services offered by Enterprise Campus, the Hatchery was successfully relocated to the fourth floor of Wynne Jones building at City Campus West in October.
Ranking tenth in the country for business start-ups in the academic year 2006 / 2007 according to the Higher Education Business and Community Interaction Survey (HEBCIS), Enterprise Campus is one of the fastest growing enterprise support facilities in the country.
Start-up businesses which have moved into the Hatchery include Edot 3, Wooden Cauliflower, Deluxe Group, Seeded SEO, Golflocker and Beer in a Tube. One space is left for businesses from the graduate enterprise module in which students are expected to run their own business over the academic year.
Graham Baty, enterprise support manager, said: “We are delighted to now have a permanent, dedicated location on campus. The facilities are so much better than the old Hatchery as we now have improved security and extra facilities such as a dedicated meeting room and kitchen.
“As the University’s entrepreneurial spirit has expanded, so has the need to provide a wide ranging support network with both on and off campus incubation facilities. Around 30 businesses benefited from support in the old Hatchery and we look forward to helping many more in the new facility.”
Enterprise Campus’ off-site facilities are based at Saville Exchange in North Shields and are soon to be spreading across the river to Gateshead early this year.
