Businesses tee off for charity
Durham Business Club has become the first company to host an event in support of charity Young Enterprise North East’s (YENE) One Day campaign.
Businesses from across the region took part in The Durham Cup Golf Day organised by Durham Business Club, with all funds from the day amounting to £750 donated to the enterprise charity.
The One Day campaign asks employers ‘what could you give up in one day?’ and outlines 10 pledges to pick from, such as giving up one days’ profit, employees’ time to volunteer or - as Durham Business Club pledged - one day to organise and host an event to promote the work of YENE.
The golf event took place on April 2 at Beamish Park Golf Club near Stanley, County Durham, where teams of four competed in an 18-hole tournament for the Durham Cup trophy and a variety of other prizes.
Catherine Marchant, YENE chief executive, said: “We are extremely grateful to Durham Business Club for being the first business to tick the ‘host an event’ pledge and organise this event in support of the One Day campaign. We rely on businesses like this to support the running our programmes.
“So far the One Day campaign has been a success, however we need businesses to carry on signing up to allow us to continue running a programme that offers young people valid enterprise education.”
Durham Business Club’s development director Christine Yule said: “The event offered organisations the opportunity to network with corporate associates in a relaxed social environment.
“We welcomed representatives from all types of businesses and everyone had a fantastic day. We have always been supportive of YENE and we are urging other businesses to get involved and donate one day to the campaign.”
The One Day campaign aimed to sign up one company every working day across 18 months and is still relying on businesses to sign up to help it meet this target.
