A Lot of Bottle
A Newcastle plastics company is looking to a bright future after creating a new type of bottle that has already attracted huge interest from the chemical industry.
Northumbria Blow Mouldings, trading since 1987 and part of the DNR group, expects to increase its £5.5m turnover and add to its 50-strong workforce as it steps up production.
The products are a first for continental Europe as the first four- and five-litre bottles made of a resilient PET plastic to have a handle, allowing firms to sell liquids in larger quantities.
The bottles, made from materials developed by US chemical group Eastman, have attracted substantial interest, especially from makers of household cleaning products. Seeing the potential, Northumbria Blow Mouldings invested a six-figure sum in research and development.Joint MD Brian Wiper said: “We are very excited about the new bottle as it will be an industry first for a lot of companies. It secures work for our team over the coming months and I’m sure it will allow us to grow beyond that.”
