Hundreds of jobs from process industries
Despite difficult economic times over the past twelve months, the North East’s process industry has recruited almost 700 new people in that time.
Positions were created at companies including Balfour Kilpatrick, Ensus, Northern Recruitment Group and a number of local SMEs, varying from a small number of additional staff, to several hundred new recruits.
In addition 59 jobs were safeguarded and a number of businesses have survived the effects of the recession due to ongoing support from the North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC).
Dr Stan Higgins, NEPIC CEO said: “Clusters like ours are about economic growth. We focus our attention on activities that will benefit all members.
“Over the last four years we have reported that our activities have delivered 1500 jobs for the region and safeguarded 1000 more, and this alone has been worth over £160m GVA to the regional economy. We couldn’t do this without the annual input from our members of £3m and the support of our regional development agency, One North East.”
NEPIC’s work to promote the region’s process capabilities and that of member companies has resulted in orders from customers all over the globe, including the United States, India and Nigeria.
