Keiron's scholarship success
A Newcastle businessman has won a place to study at one of the UK’s top business schools after entering a nationwide scholarship competition in the Independent newspaper.
Kieron Gallagher, who runs a Newcastle-based consultancy advising local authorities, was one of three candidates picked as part of an annual scholarship competition run by Durham Business School.
Kieron began studying on the Executive MBA programme in January this year and hopes the course will allow him to gain the skills he needs to expand his business into the training and recruitment sector.
The competition, which has been running for four years, funds three students annually on a full-time, executive or distance learning MBA which for some students could mean a saving of up to £19,000.
He said: “One of the key aspects of Durham’s Executive MBA is to shape business leaders of the future by enhancing the skills and practices needed to make an impact in business management. I considered doing an MBA for a few years but found the thought of financing my studies a little worrying.
“I’m so pleased I was selected for the scholarship which really will make a great difference to how I manage my business.”
Kieron added: “The course is already starting to pay some dividends for me in terms of being offered further opportunities in my sector, which is fantastic as I am already able to put into practice some of what I have learnt so far.”
The others winners included Gary Bishop, a businessman in the process of launching a social enterprise which works with young and vulnerable people in Manchester. Gary is studying on the full-time MBA while Durga Nair, a HR consultant in Delhi is now enrolled on the Distance Learning MBA programme.
