No Oasis for children's charity

A children’s charity has been left £1000 out of pocket following a retraction from an auction at a recent event they hosted.

The Northern Region division of children’s charity Variety Club hosted a tribute to Tim Healy and Denise Welch at Newcastle’s Civic Centre on 6 February. The evening included a live auction, with prizes such as a new Fiat car, a guitar signed by Mark Knopfler and two tickets to see Oasis in Sunderland.

Unfortunately, the winners of the two Oasis tickets retracted their bid following the event, meaning that the Variety Club will not be receiving the £1000 winning offer for the tickets.

The gig is due to take place at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Wednesday 10 June, and Variety Club is now looking for a new bidder for the tickets.

Variety Club’s Northern Region Chairman Bob Gladwin said: “It is obviously disheartening that we aren’t going to receive the money for the tickets. £1000 is obviously a substantial amount of money and we could have done a lot with it to continue all of the vital work that we do for children across the region.

“We know that at the moment people don’t have much disposable income, but it was still extremely disappointing to have this offer revoked when it came to paying for the tickets. The majority of the donations we receive in similar settings involve an element of trust - we are now concerned that we might have to change this policy for future events.”

If you would like to put in an offer for the tickets, contact Bob Gladwin on 07939 031 405.
