Food fans served well on Tyneside
The region’s food fans have been gven a real treat as they flocked to the EAT! NewcastleGateshead festival, which started at the weekend.
Baltic Square, Gateshead, was packed with visitors on Saturday, keen to buy from markets and watch culinary demonstrations. Chefs from Malmaison, Ravel and Six at Baltic shared their secrets of cooking with regional produce.
Simon Preston, director of EAT! NewcastleGateshead said: “This is the third year of the Eat! festival and it has gone from strength to strength. “The support from local restaurants and food producers has been brilliant.”
The EAT! Festival is now in it’s third year, and is one of the country’s leading food festivals.
Tickets have been snapped up for events such as the ‘EAT! Carter event’, which gave guests the chance to dine suspended 50m high from a crane, in front of Gateshead’s Get Carter car park.
There are still a handful of tickets left for other events, including a beer tasting session with beer journalist Alastair Gilmour on 15 May. There are also tickets available for the Secret Paladares event, based on the Cuban concept of restaurants in local people’s homes. From 11-16 May, food fans can try a typical Bosnian or Pakistani meal in home surroundings.
There are also spots available for the EAT! Speed dining event, to be held at Newcastle’s Flatbread Cafe and Starters and Puds from tomorrow until Friday. To find out more about the festival go to www.newcastlegateshead.com/eat.
