2020 set to guard North's treasures
A North Shields-based surveillance specialist has been given the job of making sure a T-Rex, who last wandered the Earth two million years ago, won’t escape the region’s most eagerly awaited new attraction.
2020 Vision is celebrating completing a security contract worth more than £100,000 for the Great North Museum: Hancock, which is due to open in May.
The company was chosen as the supplier of choice for the contract through its ongoing links with Newcastle University.
2020 Vision has installed 45 cameras throughout the museum, both internally and externally, which will serve to protect the museum and its exhibits.
Full operational control and security monitoring will be carried out in real time 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the Newcastle University security control room, with local control and display provided in the museum’s command centre.
Peter Houlis, managing director of 2020 Vision, said: “It has been a great achievement to have the chance to work on such a high profile project. 2020 Vision is extremely grateful that we have once again been given the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in areas where levels of high security and safety are a premium.”
When the new museum opens on May 23 2009, it will be a flagship visitor attraction incorporating collections from the Hancock Museum and Newcastle University’s Museum of Antiquities, the Shefton Museum and the Hatton Gallery.
